IndiGo system slowdown: Long queues at airports
IndiGo, India's largest airline by domestic market share, faced a system-wide outage on Saturday, causing lengthy wait times and long queues at airports. Passengers had to use handwritten boarding passes, especially noted at Bengaluru airport. The airline is working to resolve the issue swiftly and apologized for the inconvenience.
NEW DELHI: IndiGo passengers are facing long waiting at airports for check-ins and baggage drops on Saturday as India’s biggest airline (by domestic market share) is facing a network-wide system outage.
Passengers took to social media with pictures of long queues at airports and handwritten boarding passes at Bengaluru airport.
“We are currently experiencing a temporary system slowdown across our network, affecting our website and booking system.
As a result, customers may face increased wait times, including slower check-ins and longer queues at the airport. Our airport team is available and fully dedicated to assisting everyone and ensuring a smooth journey.
Be assured, we are working diligently to restore stability and normalcy as quickly as possible. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and patience during this time,” IndiGo said in X Saturday afternoon.
The airline operates over 2,000 daily flights with more than 2.6 domestic and about 40,000 international passengers (on a daily basis). While it has highest market share for domestic carriage at over 60%, on a standalone basis it carries the maximum passengers in and out of India.
The Air India Group — Air India plus Vistara and Air India express — together fly more international passengers than IndioGo. With these kind of numbers, the impact of a network-wide system outage is bound to be massive.
Passengers took to social media platform X and said that, "We got handwritten boarding passes. This is a first. Crazy scenes at Bangalore airport today!"
